Scorpiono’s 1 question interview with Collis from Envato

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

The previous post was a video from Envato with Collis and Cyan which I salute again.

I had one BIG question for them which was never asked in the interview, so I emailed Collis (yes, he’s a nice guy and he replied).

Scorpiono:

I have watched the interview, fantastic, one question buzzes in my mind, I’d love to post it to my blog:

Where do you usually spot the content writers for new sites (which forums/HR sites) ?

Collis:

Hey Sergiu,
Thanks for the email!  In answer to your question, I typically find them via the FreelanceSwitch job board or sometimes we just have an open contributor email address or form (e.g. on Tuts+ anyone can submit a tutorial) and sometimes these people go on to be regular contributors,
Hope that helps!

Thanks
Collis

ThemeForest.net exploited by crappy marketers

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

What do you do, when you have limited knowledge, some budget, a site which sells theme that sucks?

You try to mislead people you are actually ThemeForest.net

THEMEFOREST

Crappy marketers!

PS: There is no doubt that I’m an Envato for life fan, so I’m not being impartial here.

HI5.com virus/worm – genial evil mastermind behind it!

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

I hold a hi5.com account mainly because I like staying in touch with my friends and girlfriend.

Today, I’ve just got a friend request by some girl with the add description “Hey, I got you from hi5”.

I have no photo of myself on my account so it started very very fishy, I accepted the ad and launched a conversation.

hi5virus

Basically, this acts exactly as the old IRC drones use to, send a “picture” containing file.jpg.exe and spread the worm across.

The thing is, I find the bot master very smart, simply because (if) the emails were harvested automatically and the worm would send the requests and everything on itself.

I expect the spreading rate at HUGE, because the main target (Hi5 audience) consisted of kids and divas won’t even notice anything fishy.

Hopefully, hi5 will take action against this type of worm, or maybe it wasn’t even harvested from hi5.com, who knows?

Hi5 worm, ingenious yet deadly.
Oh, by the way, parents.. they could grab future credit card transactions so careful what your kids are doing on your PC!

Remind me of my old days.. *sigh*

Why most people get denied at BuySellAds

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Yesterday I had to spend quite some time on 19 pages of sites awaiting approval.
That’s about 190 sites. How many made it ? 5!
Out of the 185 sites that were denied:

95% of the time the reason for denial was that the websites were created so recently, I had no stats to compare or internal data. They were made just to sell ads, and it’s not something to be enthusiastic about, we like sites to grow.

4% were denied because of the niche, we normally take sites with traffic, but even if you have a huge source of traffic, if we feel we can’t help you fill all the spots, we’ll deny.

1% were denied because of the page bugs, browser incompatibilities, design flaws.

Conclusion:
I’m pointing everyone to look at the 95%, that’s where most are situating, they have a great site but it’s not aged enough to be attractive or comparable.

Stay toned at BuySellAds Blog, I’ll write a new tutorial there soon.

I’m testing the Windows Live Writer

It’s the only way I’ll start posting more, not sure how much it helps because major changes might occur anytime soon for Scorpiono.com, I’m just waiting for the right time.

Meanwhile, you’ll get tons of my random thoughts.

Cheers!
